SMG Review: Ibanez AFS80T Hollowbody Electric Guitar

The Ibanez AFS80T Hollowbody Electric Guitar!

Ibanez is a Japanese guitar company owned by Hoshino Gakki and known for offering musicians in the rock/metal genre a guitar that offers all the necessary options to shred. The modern era of Ibanez guitars began in 1957 when Hoshino Gakki began importing Salvador Ibáñez guitars from Spain. Over the years, the Ibanez popularity has risen and gained a following amongst seasoned musicians. Did you know that early Japanese built guitars are considered as good as, if not superior to US built axes of the same period?

OFF THE RACK

The Ibanez AFS80T has a great smooth Jazz tone with just a slight breakup in the pickups. This axe is one inch thinner then the standard AF body giving it a more mid range type tone. An Ibanez Vintage Vibrato is also mounted on the body with roller saddles, eliminating the tuning problems most vibrato bars have. If you are comfortable with the Bigsby style tremolo systems you will like the Vintage Vibrato system on the AFS80T. This axe has a great rockabilly tone much like The Stray Cats and the Reverend Horton Heat giving you a more versatile sound to step outside the jazz arena. The pickups are more punchy and although rolled back, they are smooth and jazzy sounding when cranked up. This is a perfect guitar for rockabilly music.

The AFS80T is a very comfortable guitar and perfect for long recording sessions or gigs. The neck is fast and thinner then most hollow body guitars making it more versatile for both soloing or rhythm playing. The large frets make it very easy to articulate each note in difficult chords and scales. Whether you have large or small hands this axe will suit your needs in every way.

All in all this is a great guitar with a unique rockabilly sound and just the right amount of attitude. If you are looking for that classic hollow body feel with modern hardware you need look no further.
