SMG Review: B.C. Rich Zoltan Bathory Signature ASM Electric Guitar

The B.C. Rich Zoltan Bathory Signature ASM Electric Guitar

B.C. Rich is a manufacturer of guitars and bass guitars founded by the late Bernardo Chavez Rico in 1969. Currently, most B.C. Rich guitars are manufactured in Asia, but luthiers of the company’s custom shop continue to hand-make instruments. The Hanser Music Group, based in Kentucky, operates B.C. Rich.

The B.C. Rich Zoltan Bathory Signature ASM Electric Guitar is built for the hardest of rock and metal. The construction is strong and very well put together. The first thing I noticed about this axe is that it’s built much like a bass guitar in that the neck is through the body with the skunk stripes from butt to tip. The neck is really fast too because the finish stops right at the first fret and then reappears after the 24th fret. The natural maple finish just feels faster and smoother to the touch. The neck is fast, thin and has a flat-type fretboard which is perfect for both soloing and rhythm playing. The tone is very chunky and in your face. With the coil tapping controls you can mellow the sound out and make it warm and less bright. This axe is very aggressive but can be tuned to have a sweet mellow clean and warn tone for those who are playing on the clean channel. The Floyd Rose tremolo allows for more versatility while playing, keeping you in tune every step of the way. The SWEET flamed maple top is perfectly matched with the natural maple neck. Definitely a beast of a guitar with superior construction and amazing style.

The final tally here is that this is a great guitar with everything you could ever need to bring the house down. Truly one of the finest built guitars I have ever played. A fast and easy to play neck makes this one a real pleasure to play. The tone is versatile thanks to the coil tapping, which gives you that chunky metal tone as well as a mellow single coil Strat tone. The guitar has some weight to it, but it’s not heavy like a Les Paul. The extra cutaway gives you that needed room to reach all of the frets with ease. This is one of the better signature series guitars out there for much less money than others. I think it is well priced for the quality you get. I would recommend every metal head or hard rocker check out this axe. It comes in three variations to fit all your aesthetic needs.

Pros: Chunky tone, coil tapping, fast neck, neck through body, locking bridge, quality build.
