Review: The John Petrucci JPX-6 Signature Guitar

The Pickups

The John Petrucci Signature JPX-6 is loaded with a DiMarzio Liquifire humbucker in the neck position and a DiMarzio Crunch Lab humbucker in the bridge position and a Piezo pickup built into the tremolo bridge for both electric and acoustic guitar sounds.

A specially-wired 5-way switch gives you access to the individual pickup coils so that you can combine them in both traditional and unique ways. Traditional pickup controls include master volume and tone knobs. The acoustic Piezo pickup gets its own separate volume control. A 3-way toggle switches you from the magnetic pickups to the Piezo pickup, or combines both.

Dual output jacks give you the option of running either Piezo/Mono (output 1) or Magnetic/Stereo (output 2).

The Low Down

The John Petrucci JPX-6 Signature guitar is a force to be reckoned with. Its aggressive tone, style, feel and versatility are superior to most in its class. It’s a bit pricey but you get a lot of usable features for the money. The great thing about this guitar is that it’s not just designed for rock and metal. The JPX-6 was designed to accommodate all styles and tones. The combination of tones the JPX-6 can create will amaze you in every way. It’s very comfortable and you will be happy that you will not need to swap anything out on this guitar. Out of the box it’s ready to go! I would definitely recommend this axe to anyone.

Pros: Great pickups, Thicker gauge strings, Piezo, Fast neck, 24 frets, Coil tapping, Locking tuners, and a Floating bridge.

Cons: Only one color, Pricey.
